ALWAYS THE WEEKEND BEFORE LABOR DAY WEEKEND

Crown of Maine Balloon Fest

Aroostook County is steeped in ballooning history. In 1978, the Double Eagle II launched from Presque Isle and made the first successful crossing of the Atlantic.  In 1984, Joe Kittinger became the first person to make the solo Transatlantic balloon journey, launching from Caribou.  In 2013 Jonathan Trappe launched his attempted trans-Atlantic balloon flight using 365 individual helium balloons and established a world record for distance, when he landed in Newfoundland.

Each year, The Crown of Maine Balloon Fest offers a weekend of events for the whole family featuring hot air balloons, kids events, music, other family friendly fun!

There’s a lot of talk about up north. It’s the place everyone seems to want to escape the pressures and frantic pace of everyday life. But where is up north? For up north is not so much a location as it is a state of mind. So, how do you know when you’ve arrived up north? When you feel the cares of the world begin to slip away. When you feel yourself breathing a little deeper because the air seems purer somehow. When you notice the sky is bluer, the trees are taller, and the people smile a lot. Then you know you’re up north.
